Our Bishop

Warm Welcome

A Message from our Bishop

Welcome to realAnglican! We seek to be authentic (real) in our expression of classical Anglicanism (Reformed Catholicism) so as to walk through the gateway of Our Lord to abundant life (St. John 10. 7-10).

To be real is to be genuine; it is to be actual and actualized. It is to actually exist in truth, and not in imagination. Thus, we at realAnglican stand for true religion and lively faith. This core understanding of what it means to be “real” pairs well with my interest and insight into the human condition from a psychological lens (psyche means "soul"): We live in fantasy more often than we realize (which is the very nature of fantasy!). Unreflectingly, we sleepwalk through much of our earthly existence. However, this is not our purpose nor our destiny. Hence, in the Epistle lesson appointed for the start of every Church Year, St. Paul calls us out of our slumber: “Now it is high time to awake out of sleep” (Romans 13. 11)!

Will you join me in waking to the pursuit of a new life—a real life—worth living? We would love to hear from you and connect with you!

Blessings,

The Right Reverend Andrew E. Nussey

*The Old Catholic Church (sometimes called the Ancient, or Original, Catholic Church) derived centuries ago from a movement that sought reform within the Roman Catholic Church. The Old Catholic Church and classical Anglicanism share much in common with respect to formation, beliefs, and practices (one might regard them as close cousins). Akin to the Church of England, while resistance to the authority of the Bishop of Rome (Pope) in local affairs led to a split of the Old Catholic Church from the Roman Catholic Church, it is interesting to note that Bishops consecrated faithfully from within the Old Catholic line of apostolic succession are considered by the Pope's jurisdiction to be valid.
